This special event will explore how urban heat shapes daily life in vulnerable communities, particularly for children and informal workers, and how more inclusive, people-centered climate adaptation can be developed. Through film and discussion, the event will bring together voices from affected communities, practitioners, and policy advocates working on urban resilience and climate justice.

CCCL workshop participants will be pitching their projects for small production grants.

We have heard the warnings, seen the headlines, and lived through record-breaking heat, floods, pollution, and growing inequality—yet climate change remains a conversation we keep having. As the crisis increasingly shapes our daily lives, it is clear that this is not only an environmental issue, but also one of justice, livelihoods, and our shared future. Through a film screening and discussion, this event explores how cinema, art, media, and culture can cut through climate fatigue and bring the human stories behind the crisis into focus. Bringing together filmmakers, communicators, and practitioners, the conversation asks a simple but urgent question: if we are still talking about climate change, what kind of stories do we need to tell to finally inspire understanding, empathy, and meaningful change?

The climate crisis does not affect everyone equally. Its impacts are shaped by social, economic, geographic, and gender realities, often placing women, Indigenous peoples, LGBTQ+ communities, and other marginalized groups at greater risk while also highlighting their knowledge, resilience, and capacity to adapt. Through film screenings and a panel discussion, this program invites audiences to explore stories from the frontlines of climate change, reflect on whose voices are represented in cinema and media, and consider how more just, inclusive, and equitable climate futures can be built for all.

The international panel “Climate Film: From Local to the Global Market” on June 14 (10am - noon) will feature industry leaders from the USA, India, the Philippines and Thailand, including Lydia Dean Pilcher, Emmy-winning filmmaker, CEO of New York-based Cine Mosaic and co-founder of Global Rise: Stories for the Future, Tamseel Hussain, CEO of Delhi-based PlucTV, Thai filmmaker Primrin Puarat of Purin Film Fund, and King Catoy of Tech-Tales, EngageMedia, with Chris Lowenstein, CEO of Living Films as the moderator. Ms. Filcher and Mr. Hussain also represent the ECCA (Entertainment and Culture for Climate Action) Film and Television Steering Committee under the UNFCCC.
