[TH] เมื่อวิกฤตสภาพภูมิอากาศเริ่มรุนแรงขึ้น ทั้งคลื่นความร้อน ภัยพิบัติ มลพิษ และความเหลื่อมล้ำทางสังคม การทำความเข้าใจ climate change จึงไม่ใช่เพียงเรื่องของสิ่งแวดล้อม แต่เป็นเรื่องของผู้คน ความเป็นธรรม และอนาคตร่วมกันของสังคม กิจกรรมฉายภาพยนตร์และสนทนานี้ชวนสำรวจบทบาทของภาพยนตร์ ศิลปะ สื่อ และวัฒนธรรมในการถ่ายทอดประสบการณ์ของผู้ที่ได้รับผลกระทบจากวิกฤตสภาพภูมิอากาศ ทำให้ประเด็นที่ซับซ้อนเข้าถึงได้ผ่านเรื่องเล่าและอารมณ์ความรู้สึก พร้อมเปิดพื้นที่แลกเปลี่ยนระหว่างนักสร้างสรรค์ นักสื่อสาร และผู้ทำงานด้านสังคมและสิ่งแวดล้อม เพื่อค้นหาว่าเรื่องเล่าจะช่วยสร้างความเข้าใจ ความเห็นอกเห็นใจ และเปลี่ยนแปลงเพื่ออนาคตที่ยั่งยืนและเป็นธรรมมากขึ้นได้อย่างไร

[EN] We have heard the warnings, seen the headlines, and lived through record-breaking heat, floods, pollution, and growing inequality—yet climate change remains a conversation we keep having. As the crisis increasingly shapes our daily lives, it is clear that this is not only an environmental issue, but also one of justice, livelihoods, and our shared future. Through a film screening and discussion, this event explores how cinema, art, media, and culture can cut through climate fatigue and bring the human stories behind the crisis into focus. Bringing together filmmakers, communicators, and practitioners, the conversation asks a simple but urgent question: if we are still talking about climate change, what kind of stories do we need to tell to finally inspire understanding, empathy, and meaningful change?

[EN] As the climate crisis increasingly shapes lives across Southeast Asia, stories about its impacts remain surprisingly rare on screen. Filmmakers seeking to tell climate stories often face multiple barriers—from limited funding opportunities and market support to censorship, political sensitivities, and the broader challenges of independent filmmaking in the region. Yet local stories of environmental change, community resilience, and climate justice have the potential to resonate far beyond national borders. This conversation brings together filmmakers, producers, and industry professionals to explore the challenges and opportunities of climate storytelling in Southeast Asia, and to discuss how locally rooted narratives can connect with international audiences, navigate global markets, and contribute to a growing worldwide conversation on the climate crisis.

The international panel “Climate Film: From Local to the Global Market” on June 14 (10am - noon) will feature industry leaders from the USA, India, the Philippines and Thailand, including Lydia Dean Pilcher, Emmy-winning filmmaker, CEO of New York-based Cine Mosaic and co-founder of Global Rise: Stories for the Future, Tamseel Hussain, CEO of Delhi-based PlucTV, Thai filmmaker Primrin Puarat of Purin Film Fund, and King Catoy of Tech-Tales, EngageMedia, with Chris Lowenstein, CEO of Living Films as the moderator. Ms. Filcher and Mr. Hussain also represent the ECCA (Entertainment and Culture for Climate Action) Film and Television Steering Committee under the UNFCCC.

Although the deep sea may seem remote from our everyday lives, it plays a vital role in regulating the climate, storing carbon, and supporting biodiversity. As one of Earth’s least explored ecosystems, it still holds countless species and ecological processes that scientists are only beginning to understand. Yet growing interest in deep-sea mining is bringing unprecedented pressure to these fragile environments, raising urgent questions about the potential loss of biodiversity before it is even discovered. Following the screening of How Deep Is Your Love, this lecture by Watcharapong Hongjamrassilp explores why studying deep-sea life matters, what we still do not know about the ocean’s depths, and what deep-sea mining could mean for the future of marine biodiversity and ocean ecosystems.

About

Assistant Professor Watcharapong Hongjamrassilp, Ph.D., known as “WiN,” is a Thai biologist and National Geographic Explorer. He currently serves as Assistant Director of the Aquatic Resources Research Institute and as a faculty member in the Department of Marine Science, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. WiN received his M.Sc. in Marine Biology from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California San Diego, and his Ph.D. in Biology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). His work spans marine biology, animal behavior, ecology, and evolutionary biology, while also promoting public engagement with science through lectures, digital media, popular science articles, and a wide range of creative projects. Through his research and outreach, he seeks to share the wonder of the natural world with audiences of all backgrounds.

CCCL workshop participants will be pitching their projects for small production grants.

[EN] The climate crisis does not affect everyone equally. Its impacts are shaped by social, economic, geographic, and gender realities, often placing women, Indigenous peoples, LGBTQ+ communities, and other marginalized groups at greater risk while also highlighting their knowledge, resilience, and capacity to adapt. Through film screenings and a panel discussion, this program invites audiences to explore stories from the frontlines of climate change, reflect on whose voices are represented in cinema and media, and consider how more just, inclusive, and equitable climate futures can be built for all.

1. Dewi Candraningrum

Dewi Candraningrum is the lead editor of the Ecofeminism Book Series (Volumes I–VII) and specializes in gender studies. She is the founder of the Jejer Wadon collective, named after her Surakarta-based painting studio where she paints alongside her son with disabilities. Her artistic work centers on women ecological defenders and survivors of gender-based violence—including the 1942 ianfu, 1965 Gerwani, and the Kartini Kendeng movement.

1. Amporn Praipanasamphan

Amporn Praipanasamphan (Ning) is a dedicated social activist with over seven years of experience advocating for marginalized communities in Northern Thailand. Based in Chiang Mai, her work focuses on the intersection of human rights, gender equality, and indigenous wisdom. Currently, Ning is an independent consultant and practitioner, bridging the gap between nature and health. She founded Ban Mo Ta Ae ("The House of Mother’s Love"), a wellness sanctuary that integrates traditional Pga K'nyau (Karen) indigenous knowledge with natural therapies. Her practice is dedicated to the physical and emotional restoration of single mothers, survivors of violence, and the elderly, utilizing herbalism and nature-based healing to foster community resilience.

1. King Catoy

King Catoy is a Project Lead at EngageMedia, where he has been cultivating the organisation's video for change program since joining as a project coordinator in 2017. Through Tech Tales Youth, he has mentored over 20 filmmakers from across the Asia-Pacific, helping them craft compelling narratives that engage audiences in the digital rights movement and highlight cinema's transformative impact. King was also part of the team that rebranded EngageMedia's original video platform into Cinemata.org. He currently serves as the development lead, collaborating closely with developers from Southeast Asia. This journey is a full circle for him, as he started as a user in the late 2000s, uploading films from political film collectives in the Philippines. His curatorial expertise has earned recognition through jury positions at the 34th Gawad Alternatibo, the 20th Argentina International Human Rights Film Festival, and the SEAShorts Film Festival. He also volunteers as the Southeast Asia Coordinator for the Steering Group of the Radical Film Network, the world's largest network for activist and experimental film. His work builds on years in the Philippines' alternative media, where he led Mayday Multimedia as Executive Director and co-founded AlterMidya Network, a national collective of independent media outfits.

About the film

Two artists in Walthamstow set out to take their street off the grid, kickstarting a solar-powered energy revolution. Inspired by lockdown mutual aid initiatives, artist-activists Hilary Powell and Dan Edelstyn decided to turn their street into an energy-generating powerhouse – a prototype for a new way of living, with the hope of galvanising a wider push towards sustainable alternatives.
