Thida Plitpholkarnpim
Thida Plitpholkarnpim born in 1972, Thida graduated from Faculty of Architecture and Faculty of Communication Arts, Chulalongkorn University. She later turned her attention from graphic design and advertising to writing about film after starting her first internship at the film magazine CINEMAG. She then co-founded the film editorial team for the website edtoday.com, owned by Grammy Entertainment.
In 2000, Thida and Suparp Rimtheparthip founded the film magazine BIOSCOPE, which focuses on presenting film content that inspires and broadens the knowledge of film lovers. The magazine had expanded its scope to include other areas related to film, such as the Indie Spirit Project, which helped bring independent films to wider theatrical release; short film workshops for students, educators, and the general public nationwide; competitions and festivals that addressed social issues.
Thida's love of documentaries, coupled with her frustration with the lack of diversity in Thailand's film market, especially in the documentary genre, which combines entertainment with content that exposes the truth and inspires viewers to ask questions and take action to change the world around them, led her to found the Documentary Club in 2014. The project began with a crowdfunding campaign that was met with enthusiastic support, raising enough money to acquire the rights to excellent documentaries from around the world, add Thai subtitles, and screen them in leading cinemas.
The project has since expanded to include a variety of other activities, such as panel discussions to expand knowledge related to each documentary, screenings of documentaries and academic events with various social organizations, and screenings of documentaries to raise funds for student organizations to use in their social impact activities.
