CCCL in collaboration with Greenpeace Thailand organized the screening and talk session event on “Where’s Justice in ‘Just Transition’?” during the BKKCAW

Last Saturday, October 4, 2025 – CCCL and Greenpeace Thailand cooperated with the event by screening films and continuing with the talking stage on climate justice. To begin with the couple of films screening by CCCL:


1) WHEN THE WIND RISES by Chen Hung (Taiwan) – A village elder’s isolated struggle against the expansion of an oil refinery throws the community into turmoil. The other villagers are torn, caught indecisively between the pursuit of short-term social security and the desire for sustainable change.


2) WHO LOVES THE SUN by Arshia Shakiba (Canada)  In war-torn northern Syria, Who Loves the Sun delves into the world of makeshift oil refineries and the stark realities of life within this post-apocalyptic landscape. Mahmood is a prominent figure in these operations, navigating harsh working conditions and complex local dynamics.



After the first film screening program, the audience had to participate into the talk session with the topic of “A Price to Pay: Lives constrained by the power of fossil fuel wealth”. The panelists on this session are:


1) Dawan Chantarahassadee, Ecological Alert and Recovery - Thailand (EARTH)

2) Pornchita Fapratanprai, youth environmental activist from Karen village of Kaboe Din

3) Dr. Busakorn Suriyasarn, Director of Tonkla Rak Lok Foundation and CCCL Team Leader Moderated by Wipaporn Wuttanawit, Thai PBS



The next session started with the film screening of “Voices Under Attack: SLAPP and the Fight to Protect the Environment” by Panutat Ketjareon. This documentary tells the story of the people’s journey of hope — a struggle to demand justice and defend their rights against the pressures of state power and corporate interests. 



Followed by the talk session on “SLAPP and the Stolen Rights ” which the panelists on the stage are:

1) Supachot Chaiyasat, Member of the House of Representatives of Thailand People's Party

2) Panutat Ketjareon, Documentary Film Director, Thairath Online  

3) Sor Rattanamanee Polkla, Lawyer, Community Resource Centre Foundation

Moderated by Manun Wongmasoh, Greenpeace Thailand



During the week of BKKCAW, this collaborative event “Where’s Justice in ‘Just Transition’?” aims to represent the area for the unheard voice, to expand their point of view on this climate crisis through films and the talk sessions, and to raise the public's attention on what impacts some groups of people are fighting for, especially in the sector of energy.
