For generations, a minority community has lived deep within a forest they call home. When they are forced to leave the land their ancestors have inhabited for hundreds of years, the forest becomes more than a place to live. It becomes a question of identity, belonging and what remains when a community is separated from the land that has shaped its life.

Naturalists and lifelong friends Wan Chittiwat and Professor Kitichate set out across Thailand in search of ecosystems that remain hidden beyond protected areas. What begins as a journey of curiosity becomes a race against time as rapid urban development threatens these fragile landscapes. Their expedition turns into a mission to document and protect some of nature’s last untouched wonders.

THE EGRET RIVER (Liu Wan-ling / 20 min / 2022 / Taiwan)

Among the towering buildings of the city, a lonely security guard secretly cares for a beautiful patch of wilderness and shares it with an egret. When the land is destroyed to make way for another building, the egret disappears and the guard loses his refuge. As he wanders through the concrete landscape, reality begins to dissolve into mysterious visions, revealing a quiet longing for a place where humans and nature can coexist.

ท่ามกลางตึกสูงในเมือง เจ้าหน้าที่รักษาความปลอดภัยผู้โดดเดี่ยวดูแลผืนธรรมชาติเล็ก ๆ ที่ซ่อนตัวอยู่ระหว่างอาคาร และแบ่งปันพื้นที่แห่งนั้นกับนกยางตัวหนึ่ง แต่เมื่อผืนดินถูกทำลายเพื่อสร้างอาคารใหม่ นกยางก็หายไปพร้อมกับที่พักพิงของเขา ขณะที่เขาเดินท่ามกลางภูมิทัศน์คอนกรีต ความเป็นจริงค่อย ๆ เลือนหายกลายเป็นภาพลวงตาอันลึกลับ สะท้อนความปรารถนาเงียบ ๆ ที่มนุษย์และธรรมชาติจะยังมีพื้นที่ให้ดำรงอยู่ร่วมกัน
