RUEN-ROEY: WHISPERS IN THE FOREST (รื่นโรย) (Nunthachai Phupoget / 14 min / 2026 / Thailand)

Som-O and Sor, two transgender women who make a living foraging in the forest, face declining resources and the constant fear of arrest because the land where they work cannot be registered as a community forest. Yet despite these uncertainties, they continue their way of life, holding on to a deep connection with the forest and asking what makes them keep returning to it.

In a quiet house, a grandson gently cares for his grandfather, whose body bears scars that cannot be erased. Beyond the walls, a barren mountain bears wounds of its own, left behind by years of quarrying and destruction. When a distant explosion shakes the house, the old man is overcome by fear. As the scars on his body echo those carved into the landscape, the film draws a quiet connection between personal trauma and the wounds inflicted on nature.

In 2180, the Earth has entered a new ice age, leaving much of Japan buried beneath snow. Suzuki, a young traveller searching for warmth, arrives at a former guesthouse in Tokyo and meets a father and daughter who have survived in the frozen world. When Suzuki introduces them to his tent sauna, the unlikely gathering becomes an intimate encounter with warmth, conversation and human connection in a world transformed by extreme climate.
